I loved Remains of the Day, and had high hopes for this after reading the first chapter, which demonstrated what I thought would be the deliciously unreliable narrator ... But he was so unreliable that two-thirds of the way through the book, I was confused about major plot points, and the climax just seemed a muddle. Disappointing. Not sure I'll read his latest now.
