Jarhead (Anthony Swofford)

I don't know anything about the movie, but you should read this before you see it. It's a good book, and the ideas in it are complex and sometimes contradictory, and I'm not sure how easy that will be to show in a movie.

Swofford is better writer than I expected, and deserving of all the good reviews ... He's not a gentle man, by any means, or a particularly happy man (at least during the period of his life covered in this book), but he's a rational man. He's also honest -- he'll tell you about each and every time he pissed his pants, from the first time in boot camp until he was getting shot at in the Desert, as he refers to the first Iraqi war in 1991.
