I don't know how, but I think I got through the public school system and college (as an English major, no less) without reading this book. I remember Dr. Long, in Southern Lit, referring often to Boo Radley and Scout and Jem and Atticus Finch. I can't believe I didn't go read it right then. Lately I keep hearing it mentioned as people's favorite book, and I borrowed it from one of those people. It is indeed a great book, a good story told with love and skill, and I now count it among my favorites too.
