I didn't especially enjoy the movie Adaptation, but it did motivate me to buy and read this book. I rarely read nonfiction, and found real delight in this book. It's full of history and botany and other hard facts, but never tedious. Orlean brings herself into the story, subtly and gracefully and quietly, as you imagine her physical presence was as she infiltrated the strange world of orchid fanatics.
