Adaptations
November 18, 2007

I am watching Notes on a Scandal, which is a very fine film adaptation of a novel I read a few years ago. The movie features two of my favorite actresses: Dame Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett.

Movies I will not see because I loved, and reread, the books:

  1. The Shipping News - I would not have thought of Kevin Spacey for Quoyle. I think it should not have been a star in that role.
  2. Cold Mountain - Renee Zellweger as Ruby? I can hardly bear to think of it, let alone watch. <shudder>
  3. And now, one of my favorite books ever, Ian McEwan's Atonement, has become a movie. This one will be hard to resist; it sounds very well done, and is directed by Joe Wright, who did the excellent Pride and Prejudice in 2005. (There's a book I've read and reread and loved, yet I had no qualms about watching the movie.)

Comments

I saw "Notes on a scandal" the same day I bought "what was she thinking"--a first edition--from Barnes and Nobles (or was it Borders?) for $4.95. I like discount racks.

I don't get off the island much.

Was one better than the other? I have subscribed to Sundae's zine for you.
