Quick update from East Leroy, MI
August 07, 2007

We are on vacation. A vacation I thought was ill-timed (five days after our big move) but turned out to be very well-timed ... I have some work to do, but I don't have to unpack anything or organize any rooms and that is a very nice feeling. When I'm not working I can just relax.

Yesterday the baby and I went down and sat in the shade by the lake. He just pulled grass and kicked his feet in the grass for 20 minutes and it was wonderful relaxing vacation fun.

The baby has been sleeping in his own room since the move (in our new house, and here in my in-laws' house). And guess what? Not only was there no problem transitioning him to his own room, but he sleeps WAY better on his own than he did when we were all in the same room. Most nights he does not wake up, and not only that, but he is starting to sleep longer at night. He slept over twelve hours straight last night! Joy, joy, joy. I can't tell you what strange elation I felt this morning at waking (just) before the baby and reading in bed for five minutes before I had to get him out of the crib. I felt like I was playing hooky.

I'm sure this will all change next week; his molars will start coming in and he'll wake five times a night, or something. But that does not diminish my pleasure one bit.

We are heading up to Lake Michigan today for a few days of beach time. More later.
