When I lived in Mali and went about my life I would notice things that seemed "bloggable" and sort of file them away in my brain, and start writing little posts in my head, so when I sat down at the computer I would just type out what I had been thinking about.

These days my head is full of other junk (naps, feeding, diapers, how to eat breakfast and get dressed before 10:00 a.m., how to cook and eat dinner before 8:30 pm) and I blink and 10 days have passed since I last posted.

Here are some small things I think of, when I think of the last few days:

I tried to take a picture of the growing (blond!?!) fuzz on the top of baby's head, but he kept twisting around to look at the camera.

He is too long for his infant car seat but we haven't installed the new one yet, partly because we're lazy, but also because once we install it, we'll have to stop using the current stroller, which is just a frame that holds his car seat. We have a new stroller (orange, like the picture) for him but he's not too crazy about it (yet). It's a lot bigger than his car seat and not nearly as cozy. I think he'll like it more when he can sit up better.

Baby and I went for a walk yesterday afternoon and saw two young guys playing bluegrass (banjo and fiddle) at Woodley Park Metro station. They were really good. (Their website is supposedly skoal-city.com, but that's not working for me.) They play with a country band called Foxhunt sometimes, and are going to a festival next week called Mayhem in the Mountains. The fiddler told me bluegrass changed his life.

Baby had a babysitter for the first time in his life yesterday morning, while I went to a meeting about some potential freelance work. Luckily he slept most of the time. Lucky (for him and the sitter) because he cried the whole time he was awake. I hate to leave him like that, but baby's got to get used to being sat sometime ... I have been with him almost every minute of his life.

Sometimes I think about how his DNA is a mix of my DNA and E's DNA, and I know there's nothing new about that, but it's still freaky.

In non baby news: we have a house in Arlington under contract! It's a brick 1940s duplex with a little backyard (deck, shed). We've already had the inspection (thumbs up), we'll close on June 20, and we'll move sometime in July. Then we'll be Virginians, which is another freaky thing to think about for a born Marylander.

That is definately Baby's shade of blue. It makes the eyes pop in the photos. That bit a blue DNA did not come from E. C's employer is forcing us to move to Virgina but I am definately not ready for that address.

Virginia isn't that awful, everyone! I survived the transition from Maryland to Virginia without becoming a conservative, pro-life, gun-toting soccer mom. And, Arlington is maybe even a bit more cosmopolitan than the part of Maryland we grew up in, wouldn't you say?
