Flickr geotagging
April 05, 2007

Every now and then I discover some little bit of goodness on the web and get completely absorbed in it for a while.

My latest preoccupation is geotagging my photos in Flickr -- that is, adding geographical data to each photo describing where it was taken.

The really fun part is that you can see a map of all my photos.

What makes it a little less fun is that it's broken up into pages of 250 photos. (Click on the arrow in the top left corner to see the other pages.) The Flickr team knows people are not happy with this and are working on a solution -- I hope they find one soon, because a map function where all the photos don't appear on the same map is kind of lame.

That's cool. That would actually be a great thing to catalog historical photos that way. Then you could get an exact before/after.

That's exactly what set me off on it -- I took this photo in Columbia Heights and remembered another one I'd taken a couple years before in the exact same spot.
