Poor woman's conference
March 15, 2006

You may have heard: the SXSW Interactive conference is this week in Austin, Texas. If, like me, you can only dream of going, there is good news for you! SXSW is putting podcasts of some major presentations online.

Yesterday, I liked listening to Heather Armstrong and Jason Kottke talk about blogging, not because they said anything earth-shattering, but because -- duh! Heather Armstrong and Jason Kottke! Seriously, it was interesting to hear them talk about why they chose the revenue-generating models they did (Heather chose ads, Jason chose "micro-patrons," i.e., subscriptions).

Today at work I listened to designers talk on the theme of Smaller, Faster, Lighter; and Jimmy "Wikipedia" Wales interviewed Craig "Craigslist" Newmark, who was smart, self-deprecating, amusing, and thought-provoking.

I also liked listening to the author of a book about how groups make better decisions than individuals (the name escapes me right now) but I don't see it linked anymore. Update: I enjoyed listening to James Surowiecki, the author of The Wisdom of Crowds. His talk is still online even though the link fell off the main page.

I'm looking forward to listening to Podcasting 2.0 tomorrow while I'm working at home ...
