I'll be taking a hiatus
January 02, 2006

This website turned three years old yesterday. Every year on its birthday I think about what I've done with it since I started, and where I'm going with it next. Coincidentally some people have asked questions in the comments that I have been mulling over myself:

"You aren't going to Senegal?"

No, we are not. We're going to be in Washington, DC, for a while. We don't know how long. My best guess is one year -- but that is only a guess, based on the flimsiest of speculation.

"How are you feeling about it all?"

Overall, good. I'm glad we'll be near family and old friends for a while, and Washington can be a really fun city to live in. On the other hand, I miss our friends from Mali, and I miss a lot of things about living there.

"So does American Robin have any changes in store for the year you are living in DC?"

Good question. I think the first change will be to take a break, until I am settled, until I know where I want to go with this site in 2006.

I'll continue to post photos at Flickr. If you want to see something new, go there.

Robin - I've really loved reading your site over the past few years (can't believe it's been 3!) I'm glad we'll get a chance to catch up in person, too. Thanks for keeping in touch this way while you were in Mali - and thanks for all the good book recommendations!

Well, I'll really miss your posting :(. At least I'll still have our Flickr connection. I just found out I'll be going to Nairobi for a little less than 2 months at the end of January. I may bug you for tips and if you're really that homesick for Africa, you can read all the crazy messes I've gotten myself into :). I'm totally an Asian girl, I have NO idea what to do with Africa....
