Over the hill

E's 40th birthday party, co-hosted with a friend who turned 22 the same day, was a blast. After an inauspicious start to the day (fatigue, irritability, anxiety) the celebration exceeded expectations. Lots of people came, most danced, some of them for hours straight. A cake was presented, candles were blown out, and 'Happy birthday' was sung. Gifts accumulated in our big basket. At 3:00 a.m. I kicked the last of the guests out (including E, who was most reluctant to end the dancing) and went to bed (where I did crossword puzzles for an hour, because I was too wired on Coke and cake to sleep). Photos are posted in an undisclosed location; email me for the link.

Thanks Robin for helping put together our b-day party! There is nothing better than Isaam, Nirupa and a little cake :) I had a fantastic birthday!!!
Cheers,

I want it to go on the public record that I did not help put it together at all ... Cari and E did all that. I did nothing except know when to shut it down, and shut it down. Oh, and go back to pick up all our crap the next day. ;)

What a difference capitalization can make... Imagine the difference in emotional tenor between an evening of Coke and cake and an evening of coke and Cake...

"Now today is tomorrow and tomorrow's today
And yesterday is weaving in and out
And the fluffy white lines that the airplane leaves behind
Are drifting right in front of the waning of the moon"

How could I miss the 'Coke-and-cake' double meaning? Maybe because I read it at 4AM, haha! Did you write that on purpose? ;) What do you call that? Irony? A metaphor? Or perhaps a pun? The terminology eludes me!
