I went to my first ashtanga yoga class of 2002 on Sunday. Normally, the students form two rows facing each other and the teacher walks in the center. I find myself constantly distracted by other people in the class. On Sunday 46 people, presumably newly resolved, crammed into the studio and formed 3 rows facing the same direction. I spent most of the class looking at the wall in front of me. This was a good thing. Once I was able to forget all the eyes on my back, it was much easier for me to concentrate on my own poses and quiet my mind.
