Chapter 1 ("Loomings") of Moby Dick gave me quite a start this morning on the Metro. Ishmael is explaining why he goes to sea. He idly suggests that "my going on this whaling voyage, formed part of the grand programme of Providence that was drawn up a long time ago. It came in as sort of a brief interlude:
The two "more extensive performances" he mentions actually occurred in 2000 and 2001-2. Eerie coincidence? Maybe not.
