New Haven, Connecticut
March 13, 2002

It took all week but I've added photos from last weekend's trip to New Haven.

Heather and I took the 5:37 Acela Regional north with naught for entertainment but The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need. Over two hours later, as we pulled into Philadelphia, we finished what would have to pass for our friend Jae's natal chart. We slumped back in our seats, knees bumping two American University students with a laptop and a DVD of Almost Famous. Unlucky passengers without seats on the unreserved train loitered in the aisles, watching the movie over the girls' shoulders.

Our mission in New Haven was to show Jae a good time before she gets married in April. After a Saturday morning tour of Sterling Library, Jae's Arts of the Book, the Mia Lin sculpture, and the Van Gogh painting "Night Cafe" in the Yale University Art Gallery, we met up with Jae's librarian colleagues. We took the bride to lunch at Nirvana, an Indian restaurant, and showered her with CDs.

That night we got gussied up (some of us needed help getting gussy) and Jae's fiancee dropped us off at the Playwright for traditionally embarrassing b@chelorette shenanigans. Jae's Yale friends definitely added their own responsible librarian touch; they organized her list of tasks, and always knew exactly where our coats were. They did not, however, shush anyone. "Aren't these the wildest librarians you've ever seen?" we asked the just-out-of-college boys posing for our Polaroids, who said, "You're kidding, right?"

Vegetable challenge #3: Butternut Squash Soup is super easy! Recipe from the Moosewood Daily Special Cookbook. You have time to make Bulghur-Artichoke Heart salad while the squash roasts.
