Sunday was a perfect day for gentle, undemanding activity. First we strolled down to the Daily Grill for brunch. It's pricey but the food is much better and the atmosphere classier than other brunches.
Next, we drove to Takoma Park to visit our friends Molly & Tony's yard sale. After a brief examination of the merchandise, we retired to the glider on the porch, where we ate homemade ice cream with strawberries and played Tony's ukelele. That is, E played it, picking his way around it at first and then using a chord chart provided by Tony. All the musical genes in my family went to my brother, so I just relaxed and soaked up the front porch atmosphere.
At the yard sale I bumped into Don Smith, former coworker and erstwhile fanzine editor, and his wife Margaret. They just married in May. Don taught my ColdFusion class at Figleaf, but now he's a contractor with the Department of Defense, a savvy career move for any DC techie, I suppose. Since I moved out of Mt. Pleasant I don't see them anymore.
We went home with an orchard basket and a metal pail for $2 total. Our apartment doesn't hold much stuff so the only things we can buy are things to hold other things.
