First we saw the movie and then we bought the album and now it's all Wilco, all the time.
You won't know what you think of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at first. Sunday afternoon, you'll listen to it a few times on repeat and nod your head in tentative, conditional approval. By Tuesday you'll know you like it -- how could you not? It's so . . . likable. Then, Friday, without having given it any conscious thought, you find yourself whistling "Heavy metal drummer" at work and weighing how much the album owes to Pet Sounds.
I stumbled across Pitchfork Media's site while looking for reviews of YHF. (Actually, while looking for an explanation of the album name. I know it's code, but why YHF?) I like Pitchfork's record reviews and think I'll be checking them in the future. The writers are funny and knowledgable, never pretentious. They enjoy music without overthinking it. Plus, they gave Yankee Hotel Foxtrot a perfect 10.
