As we walked by my car on Sunday, I noticed wires poking out from it, from under the snow. I thought someone had wrenched my passenger-side rearview mirror off . . . But no, the wires were coming from something on the hood. We dug it out of the snow: a car stereo. Great, I thought, someone saw the plastic bag covering the vent window, got into my car, and took out my stereo . . . But no, my car stereo is still where it belongs, in my car.

We looked at the mystery stereo. We wondered how it came to be on the hood of my car, under 6 inches of snow. Theory #1: Someone nice found it, assumed it was taken from my car with the broken window, and left it on the hood. Theory #2: Someone not nice was stealing stereos from cars on my street, got interrupted while at my car, and left behind their booty.
