the Outer Banks, North Carolina
May 19 - 26, 2002
I rented a cottage in South Nags Head with two friends, and drove down to Ocracoke Island for one night. The daisies pictured are common on the Outer Banks; Jenny has a small picture of a lighthouse encircled by daisies on her wall.
I drove down to Hatteras and took the ferry to Ocracoke. On the top deck of the Kinnekeet is Harvey, who is about to invite me up there for a better view. Gulls crowd up by the stern, waiting to be fed. We saw a pylon pounder, which pounds the channel markers into the Sound floor periodically.
I spent the night with Jenny in her new house, which her dad built on their property. Note the abundant sunlight. There is a small private porch, and a ladder leading up to a loft, where Jenny sleeps.
Back in Nags Head for the final days.
